A concussion is a mild traumatic brain injury (TBI) caused by a bump, blow, or jolt to the head or body that causes the brain to move rapidly inside the skull. This shaking disrupts normal brain function, leading to temporary physical, cognitive, and emotional symptoms like headaches, confusion, and dizziness.
Falls are the most common cause of concussions. Concussions also are common among athletes who play a contact sport. The majority of people recover fully after a concussion.
